Ann Nelson Hancock of Lenoir, NC, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on February 14, 2025.

Ann was born on April 8, 1943, in Clifton Forge, Virginia to Harry E. Nelson and Georgia K. Nelson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Dr. George Hancock; daughter-in-law, Christine T. Hancock; twin sister, Donna N. Persinger; sisters, Barbara Evanko, June N. Carter, and Claudine N. Shirk; and brothers, Harry K. Nelson, Harold Nelson, and Darryl Nelson.

She is survived by three sons, Peter Nile Hancock, and wife Heather, of Hickory, NC; George Phillip Hancock of Charlotte, NC; David Carter Hancock, and wife Emily, of Raleigh, NC; and six grandchildren, George Harper Hancock & Katherine Hollis Hancock (Peter & Heather); Lauren Grace Hancock & Claire Olivia Hancock (Phillip & Christine); and Lillian Elise Hancock & George Carter Hancock (David & Emily). Also surviving is her sister, Lois N. Nicely, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.

Ann was a member of Lenoir Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. She was honored to be a leader and member of the Disciple Bible Study at First Methodist church. Ann was also a member of the Hibriten Garden Club, The Wise and Otherwise Book Club, a sustaining member of the Lenoir Service League, and a past member of the Foundation Board of CCC&TI.

Ann was a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and studied the Scriptures avidly throughout her adult life. She lived out the Greatest Commandment from Matthew 22:37 each day… loving her Lord and her God with all her heart, all her soul, and all her mind. She was a devoted, caring, and loving mother and friend, but the title she relished most was that of "Gigi" as she was affectionately called by her six grandchildren (and countless others). She adored Harper, Hollis, Lillian, George, Lauren, and Claire and loved them gently but fiercely, and they filled her with pride and great joy.

A Celebration of Ann's Life will be held at Lenoir Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Eric Bartel and Rev. Dr. Bert Young presiding. There will be a receiving at the church at 1:00 pm prior to the 2:00 pm service. Serving as pallbearers are Stewart Beall, Alex Bernhardt, Jr., Stephen Carter, Mickey Lewis, Tate Rice, and Roger Young.

Ann's family is humbly grateful for the support, prayers and love received from family and friends and for the compassionate, capable care she received from the medical staff of UNC Health Care, Caldwell Memorial Hospital, and Caldwell County Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, Ann requested memorials be made to Caldwell Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Foundation of CCC&TI.
