Obituary

Anna Lee Nahser Potter, 57, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 surrounded by loving family and friends after a long fight with cancer. Anna Lee was born and raised in Burlington, NC and received her B.S. from Appalachian State University. She was a dedicated and passionate teacher for decades, having only recently retired from Caldwell County Schools this past July.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 34 years, Steve Potter and her three children, Sarah Beth Potter of Lenoir, Steven Potter of Indianapolis, and Mary Kate Potter of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Ruth Nahser Murphy and her husband Dr. William J. Murphy, III of Chelmsford, MA, and her brother Dr. Philip J, Nahser, Jr and his wife, Deborah C. Nahser of Greensboro. As the daughter of identical twins who lived just streets apart, her cousins felt more like siblings; she is also survived by her cousin, John Meek McKibbin, IV (Colleen) of Davidson, Margaret McKibbin Penn (Brad) of Greensboro and Stanton Hall McKibbin of Fort Worth, Texas, plus several beloved nieces and nephews.

Anna Lee was predeceased by her parents, Philip Joseph Nahser, Sr. and Mary Jane Hall Nahser, brother, Arthur S. Nahser, and cousin, Mary Jane McKibbon Lindley.

Her natural enthusiasm for people and appetite for life was contagious. She is still remembered fondly as the bulldog of Williams High School in Burlington where she redefined the role of a mascot. She loved nature and anything outdoors, especially skiing, cycling, gardening, as well as spending time with her beloved dogs, friends and family, including her infamous book club.

A natural born educator, Anna Lee loved teaching science and math and preparing her students for high school and life. She was always quick to volunteer outside of the classroom with extracurricular activities for her students, including continuing her passion for cheerleading as a coach. She was forever positive and encouraging and she will be missed so very much.

The family will receive friends at the Greer-McElveen funeral home on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 12pm-2pm, immediately followed by A Celebration of Life service on Saturday, November 11 at the Greer-McElveen funeral home at 2pm.
