In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Byrd, age 78, of Lenoir passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026.

Barbara was one of the most selfless and giving people you could ever meet. She carried grace, kindness, and love in everything she did. While she spent many years working in the furniture business, retirement never slowed her down when it came to caring for others.

For over 30 years, she devoted her life to caring for people in their final chapters of life, offering not just care, but companionship, comfort, respect, dignity, and deep compassion. She had a rare gift for making each person feel seen, valued, and loved—no matter where they were in their journey.

Barbara was a mom, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, and friend to many within our family. She was always checking in with a phone call, celebrating your accomplishments, sending thoughtful care packages, giving the warmest hugs, and making sure everyone was fed. Not just you—but anyone you happened to bring along. Her table was always open, and her heart was even bigger.

She loved animals and would never let anything go hungry. She cared deeply for people, cared deeply for nature, and found joy in the simple things: family, the beach, cooking, sharing meals, watching her beautiful flowers grow, and spending time with those she loved.

Barbara also cared for her mother and her siblings in their final days, giving them the same love and comfort she gave so many throughout her life. Her compassion towards others came from the deep understanding of loss firsthand, with the passing of her beloved and only son, Jamie Lee Walker.  A loss that no parent should carry, yet she carried herself with incredible strength, unwavering faith, and resilience. Our family finds comfort, during this time, in knowing they are reunited once again and she is in the presence of her Savior and many loved ones.

She gave without ever keeping score. A genuine heart who loved without conditions. She was the kind of person who always told you she loved you, shown it in countless ways, always wanted to know how you were doing, and wished the very best for everyone around her.

Barbara passed peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by dear friends who cared for her in her final days. A woman of faith, humility, compassion, love, and grace until the end and she leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by accomplishments alone, but by the countless lives she touched and those that honor her character and life.

She was the true epitome of compassion and generosity, unconditional love. We are all better for having known her. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and carried in our hearts always.

Left to carry on her legacy of faith and love is her brother, Cecil Byrd; her numerous nieces and nephews; and many family members and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

The family is forever grateful for her dear friends and loved ones, Cheryl, Maxine and Elaine, and those who visited and cared for her in her last weeks with us.

In lieu of funeral services Barbara wished for her family and dear friends to hold on to the cherished memories they made together.
