Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hamby Hart, age 80, of Hudson passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024 under the care of Amorem Hospice. She was born April 16, 1944 in Caldwell County to the late James Carter Hamby and Minerva Sneed Hamby. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three husbands, Thad B. Keever (father of her children), Grady Eller, and Shelton P. Hart; three brothers, James L. Hamby, Thomas H. Hamby, Boyd L. Hamby; and two sisters, Hallie M. Avery and Annie R. Bowyers.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was a friend to all and she never met a stranger. She loved cooking for others and working at Nazareth Children's Home. Barbara loved her church and church family. She was one of the founding members and the first church secretary for Living Water Fellowship.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Kenneth M. Keever (April) of Rockingham, two daughters, Anita J. Pruitt (John) of South Carolina, and Melisa K. Moody (Rev. Mark Moody) of Hudson; two brothers, Lonnie R. Hamby (Bobbie) of Salisbury, and Roy L. Hamby of California; one sister, Mavis H. Alex (JR) of Montana; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Moody officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Living Water Fellowship church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Nathaniel Moody, Wes Stoker, Dwight Hamby, John Pruitt, Butch Evans, and Terry Baker.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Living Water Fellowship, P.O. Box, 527, Lenoir, NC 28645.
