Basil Lee Penley, age 63, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at Hospice, surrounded by his family, on Monday, May 29, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

Basil was born on February 2, 1960, to Howard and Floye (Story) Penley in Landstul, Germany. After Basil graduated from South Caldwell High School in 1978, he went on to join the United States Army. After returning home, he worked in the furniture industry.

Basil enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing, and keeping his Toyota truck clean as a whistle. Basil will be remembered most for the love he had for his family. And especially the love for his momma.

Basil is preceded in death by his father, Howard Lee Penley. He is survived by his mother, Floye Penley of the home; two sisters, Karon Hughes and husband David of Lenoir, Patty Ramsey and husband Mike of Hudson; one brother, Steven Penley and wife Bethany of Lenoir; and dog, Peppers. In addition, Basil has 8 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews that he loved with all his heart.

Memorial services will be held at Burgess Chapel on Saturday, June 3, at 2:00 P.M with Chaplain Mike Ramsey officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at Dry Ponds Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the chapel.
