Obituary

Betty Nichols Clark, age 91, of Lenoir, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in Caldwell County.  Betty was born on August 10, 1933 in Ashe County to the late Morris Leonard Nichols and Ella Maie Phillips Nichols.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie; a daughter, Wanda; three brothers; a daughter-in-law, Roxie Clark; a grandson, baby boy Clark; and her step-mother, Elsie Arnett Nichols.

Betty has two loving sons, Billie R. Clark "Robbie, Jr." of Lenoir and Terry Lee Clark and wife, Martha Cooke Clark of Hudson; nephew who is more like a son, Merlin Randall (Randy) Nichols; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Robertson Rodriquez and husband Chris of Texas; great-grandchildren, Morgan Walker of Kentucky, Gavin and Caden Davis of Marion.  granddaughter, Susan Clark Neel and husband John Bill and their children, Andersen and Johnna of Dudley Shoals.

Betty didn't have any biological sisters, so her dear friend, Billie Jo Dale of Valdese, is more of a sister.  Grandson, Andy Clark and wife Natalie and their children, Jamela, Anna, and Amelia of Granite Falls; grandson, Brad William Clark of Lenoir; and grandson, Robert Allen Clark of Leland and his children, Natalie Clemmons and husband Chris of Rockingham, Madison Clark of Morganton, and Conner Clark of Whiteville.

Betty worked at Bernhardt for twenty-four years and ten months.  After leaving Bernhardt, she worked private duty CNA work.  She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization as well as a member of the American Legion.   She did a lot of volunteer work at Charles George Medical Center.  Betty realized "our freedom is not free".  So many of our boys paid the ultimate price.  She had a great appreciation of our veterans.  She was also a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church since 1964.

She was a simple person who enjoyed the simple things in life and loved her family very much.  Betty was very proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments.  Susan Clark Neel became a school teacher, Andrew (Andy) Paris Clark owns his own business of Apex Garage in Hickory, and Robert Allen Clark is a First Sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol in Kinston, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lower Creek Baptist, 633 Lower Creek Drive, Lenoir, N.C 28645.
