Cecil Levon Clark, age 97 of Hudson, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 following a short illness. He was born December 2, 1927 in Caldwell County, NC to the late Robey Haskell Clark and Myrtle Clara Walker Clark.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Gladys Cobb Clark  granddaughter Mary Catherine Clark; brothers, Thurman B. Clark, Hildred B. Clark, and Haskell C. Clark; and sisters Mildred Clark and Earline Clark Hanson.

Cecil was a proud veteran of the US Air Force and later attended Lenoir-Rhyne University and Appalachian State University, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of public education. The early years of his career were spent teaching Spanish at Hudson High School. Later he served as a guidance counselor at Hudson and then as guidance counselor and assistant principal at South Caldwell High School.

Cecil was a member of the Hudson Lions Club for decades and was committed to volunteer work that assisted the blind and visually impaired. Growing up, he had poor eyesight and understood firsthand the hardship that it caused.

After retirement, he and Gladys, his wife of 59 years, traveled extensively, visiting most all of the US states and many countries in Europe. They both loved learning about different cultures and enjoyed a number of Elderhostel study and travel adventures. They were also active in the Friendship Force, spreading peace and goodwill domestically and worldwide by staying with host families during many of their travels and likewise hosting travelers themselves. Cecil was a master basket maker as well as skilled at refinishing antique furniture. Always athletic, he participated in various sports before slowing down to just play golf.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters Cecelia Clark (husband Larry Clark) of Hickory, and Suzette Clark Bradshaw (husband Douglas Bradshaw) of Granite Falls, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and special friends.

Informal family visitation will be held Tuesday, February 4th, 2025 at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. At Cecil 's request, no services will be held and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Cecil's memory, the family suggests donations be made to a local Lions Club (or any organization serving the blind and visually impaired), Caldwell County Yokefellow, Lenoir Soup Kitchen, or a charity of one's choice.

The family deeply thanks the friends who faithfully visited Cecil at Brookdale Assisted Living in Lenoir; and also heartfelt thanks to the personal care staff at Brookdale who took wonderful care of him during his residency there.
