Charles "Buddy" Melvin VanDyke, Jr., age 83, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his residence. He was born November 6, 1940 in Tazewell County, Virginia to the late Charles VanDyke, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell VanDyke. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Judy Burress.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 64 years, Doris Knight VanDyke, of the home; two sons, Charles "Gregory" VanDyke (Kara) of Lenoir and Kelly VanDyke (Terri) of Madison; one daughter, Teresa Smith (Bernie) of Kernersville; one brother, Mark VanDyke (Kellie) of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Linda Brewer (Dean) of Kentucky and Beverly Sexton (Joel) of Virginia; five grandchildren, Adam, Morgan, Kaitlyn, Jenna, and Logan; six great-grandsons, Colby, Colton, Zayden, Luke, Zylas, and Greyson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Adam Love officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Collier's United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Moretz, Adam Witherspoon, Richard Craig, Thomas Rainey, Kelly VanDyke, and Logan VanDyke.

The family would like to sincerely thank Mr. VanDyke's caregiver, Anita Brooks for the compassionate care provided.
