Obituary

Christopher Jason Edmiston, age 52, of Lenoir ascended to his heavenly home on Friday, August 7, 2026 after a lingering illness. Christopher was born May 18, 1974 in Caldwell County to Johnny Jarvis Edmiston and Hughleta Watson Edmiston. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Beatrice Edmiston; his maternal grandparents, Hugh and Myrtle Watson; one uncle, Ronald Hal Welman; and one aunt, Jessie Wooten.

Chris graduated from Hibriten High School where he was on the swim team in 1993 and took part in the drama productions. He was mainstreamed throughout school with spending a portion of the day with a Special Ed teacher.

Chris was a hard worker, he worked at Edmiston Hydraulic Sawmill until the COVID-19 epidemic. He enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Tarheels.

Chris never met a stranger and made many friends throughout his life. Right after he was born a doctor told his parents that he would never learn to walk or talk due to Down Syndrome, but that doctor was very wrong. Not only did he learn to walk he also became a little chatterbox.

Chris time and time again set a great example of what people with Down Syndrome can do.

Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his parents include a host of beloved and cherished high school friends and their families, work colleagues, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be some of Chris’s dearest friends, Shane Norris, David Jones, Greg Poarch, Richard Poarch, Brian Poarch, and Jeff Foster.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Chris.
