David Murthia Smith, age 74, of Granite Falls passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026 at his residence. He was born October 18, 1951 in Caldwell County to the late Murthia Smith and Ruth Hartsoe Smith. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Infant Bonnie Smith and Elizabeth Ann Sumpter.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Esther Key Smith; two sons, Tim Smith (Karla) and Danny Smith; one grandson, Eli Price; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hudson with Rev. Dan Duke officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the North Catawba Fire Department.
