Obituary

Deane Sigmon

September 25th, 1938 - February 16th, 2025

Deane Sigmon was born, raised, and spent her entire life in Hudson, NC. There, she grew up as the oldest sibling of a large family by parents Rev. Marvin and Verna Saunders and went on to marry the love of her life, Rupert Sigmon, enjoying an amazing 68 years of marriage. Together, they founded their family business, Sigmon's Fashions, which started with very humble beginnings and grew into a regional staple, and were dedicated members of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sawmills, NC.

She was one of many from her family with musical talents, which she used primarily to serve at church. From singing in the choir, teaching children's music, and assisting with summertime choir camps for years on end, her life of service and faith has impacted the lives of many, especially young people.

Together, Deane and Rupert raised two children she loved dearly, Timothy Sigmon (Penny) and Renee Sigmon, who both live and work in Hudson today with their own families.

She considered it an honor to be called "Mamaw" by her grandchildren, Caleb and Katy Sigmon, Brandon Berry, and Brianna Berry, along with two great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face - Levi and Charlie Sigmon. She never missed a play, chorus concert, or band concert, and was always beaming with pride anytime she had the opportunity to talk about her grandbabies.

She loved telling stories about her children and grandchildren, eating Moon Pies, snuggling up in warm blankets, wearing sparkly clothes, and spending time at Sunset Beach with her family that she loved so much.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, are four sisters, Lois Tyler and Carolyn Hampton, Elaine Wright, Shelba Harris, and her brother, Jerry Saunders.

She is survived by her sister Ava Crouch, her adopted brother and sister, Daryl Saunders and Meleah Beaty, and her dear husband, Rupert.   She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews from her large and dearly loved Saunders family.

She loved Jesus, lived a magnificent life of faith, and while she will be deeply missed, we are so happy to have our own special angel in heaven.
