Obituary

Dennis Ray Toliver, age 77, of the Kings Creek Community in Lenoir, NC, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital Amorem Hospice Care surrounded by his family.

Dennis was born on July 9, 1948, in Ashe County, NC, to the late B. Ray and Bina Grogan Toliver in the Toliver Community.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Denise Toliver; one sister, Martha Toliver Shell; and a brother, L. Kyle Toliver.   He is also preceded in death by his brothers in law, Al Knotts, Marshall Hedrick, Tommy Hedrick and Bruce Walker; and sisters in law, Jeanette Toliver and Sarah Hedrick.

Dennis was a 1965 graduate of Kings Creek High School.  After high school he worked at Cellu Products of Patterson, NC, and for Lenoir Mirror Corporation as a Supervisor for over 30 years until his retirement.  Dennis was an avid outdoorsman of hunting, and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sue W. Toliver of the home; one son, Darin Toliver and wife Rachel; two sisters, Ruby Knotts of Maryland and Myrtle Livingston and husband Scott of Lenoir.  Four grandchildren, Jordan Hildebran of Morganton; Leah Toliver of Lenoir; Grant Strader of Charlotte; and Julia Strader of Charlotte.   Two step-grandchildren, Chase Bentley and wife Audrey of Lenoir; Cameron Bentley and wife, Hannah of Granite Falls; Three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Daniel and Taylin; Four step-great-grandchildren; Maecyn, Sutton, Emma and Noah.  Dennis is also survived by his sister in law, Faye W. Hedrick of Lenoir; sister in law Wanda Walker of Lenoir; sister and brother in law Helen W. and Stanley Miller of Lenoir, NC.  Dennis also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Mount Zion Methodist Church located 2745 Blue Creek Road, Lenoir, NC, with the Rev. Randy Goode and Rev. Danny Honeycutt officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse International PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607-3000 in Memory of Dennis Toliver.  The family would like to thank the staff of Caldwell Memorial Hospital and Amorem Hospice for their loving kindness during this difficult time.
