Our dear mother and grandmother, Doris Honeycutt Hall, passed away in Hospice Care at the

Robbins Center in Hudson, N.C. on August 17, 2023. She was born in Caldwell County on July

12, 1931 to G.H. Honeycutt and Nancy Smith Honeycutt, and was the last living child of eleven.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Kenneth Hall.

She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was a wonderful mom and

grandmother who would do anything for her children and grandchildren. Despite not having the

opportunity to attend college, she was determined that all of her children and grandchildren

would graduate from college. It was her wish that we would have comfortable and meaningful

lives. All of her children and grandchildren graduated from college; in part, because of her

encouragement.

She took pleasure in keeping a clean and inviting home. She was an exceptional cook and

enjoyed baking homemade cakes and pies (canning and freezing). She liked having people

over for meals, especially her family on holidays. She was a volunteer childrens' Sunday

School teacher and the first county coordinator of the Samaritan's Purse Christmas box

collection. Even though she was not a musician, she loved classical music and never missed

a, chance to hear her son perform. Her favorite hobby was playing Scrabble online in the

evenings with people from all over the world, something she routinely looked forward to until

two months before her death

She was practical and straightforward. Growing up in a family of 10 children in the 30's and

40's probably inspired her to choose Psalms 118:24 as her favorite Bible verse: "This is the

day the Lord hath made. We will rejoice and be happy in it.".

She is survived by her son, Greg and wife Sarah of Sylva, NC.; her daughter, Patti and

husband, Paul Cribbins of Valle Crucis, North Carolina. Her grandchildren: Kristen and

husband, Damian Rigau of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Abigail and husband, Colin Nickels of

Garner, North Carolina and Elisabeth DeLaet of Chester, Virginia, Jakob Sjöstrand and wife,

Parisa Tashakkori, of Boone, N.C., Anders Sjöstrand and wife, Anna Buckner of Valle Crucis,

North Carolina and in addition, 5 great grandchildren; Maylin Rigau of Wesley Chapel, Florida,

Milo, Clementine and Annabel Nickels of Garner, North Carolina and Arlo Sjöstrand of Valle

Crucis, North Carolina.

She greatly admired Mr. Rogers and taught her grandchildren the value of his lessons, so it

seems fitting to conclude with one of his quotes: "There is no normal life that is free of pain. It

is the very wrestling with our problems that gives us impetus for our growth". Fred Rogers.
