Eugene John Schirmacher, lovingly known as Gene, was born on December 8, 1953, to the late William Schirmacher and Irene Flack.

Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Schirmacher; his daughter, Jeanne Milman, and her husband, Chad; his stepson, Jesse Ciancimino; his grandchildren, Madison, Jesse Jr., Anthony, and Emily; and his siblings, Pete, Drew, and Judy.

Gene’s extended family includes Kristine Ciancimino Williams, mother of his grandchildren Jesse Jr. and Anthony, and Mary Eible Ciancimino, widow of his late stepson, Brandon Ciancimino, and mother of his granddaughter Madison.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Schirmacher; his stepson, Brandon Ciancimino; and his brother, Bill Schirmacher.

Throughout his career, Gene served as a police sergeant with the East Hampton Town Police Department before later becoming a manager at PNC Bank. He took pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his life.

Gene loved camping, hiking, traveling, attending concerts, visiting museums, and spending time outdoors with his beloved wife, Cindy. He was a devoted New York Mets fan and was well known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh and leaving them with stories and memories they would carry long after the moment had passed.

Family was especially important to Gene. He took great pride in his grandchildren and treasured time spent with them, his siblings, and his extended family. He also enjoyed participating in church functions and spending time with his church family, who were an important part of his life.

Gene will be remembered for his humor, his love of adventure, his devotion to family, and the many memories he leaves behind. Though his loved ones will deeply miss his presence, his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave to those around him.

A Celebration of Life honoring Gene will be held Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Greenway Presbyterian Church in Lenoir, North Carolina. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember Gene, celebrate his life, and share fellowship together.
