Evangeline Amicy, affectionately known as Van, passed away peacefully at her home in Lenoir, NC on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the age of 69. Evangeline was born on January 8, 1955 in Harlem, NY to the late Johnny White and Willie Beatrice Bazemore.

She is survived by her daughters, LaTesha White-Anderson (Husband, Richard Anderson) of

Bridgeport Ct, Taisha Taylor of Lenoir NC, and Tanika McCullough (Husband John McCullough) of Newburgh, NY. Evangeline leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Imani Evangeline Wiseman(27), Nia Delcina Best(26), Antayzha Wiseman(25), Paige Noelle(16) Brown, Elias McCullough (7), and

Neilesia Dula (7). Evangeline also leaves behind five siblings, Timothy Lee White of Dunn, NC,

Michael White of Okinawa, Japan, Adolphus White and Denise Phillips of Bronx, New York and

Brenda Greaves Jones of Long Island, NY. Evangeline also leaves behind a host of nieces and

nephews including Tamika Farmer, Anthony White, Truniece White, Steven Ellis, Danielle White, Megan White, Equan Ellis, Ramel and Jamel White, Lucy White, Marlene Ellis White, and her beloved sister in law and best friend Elizabeth Ellies-White, as well as a host of friends near and far.

Evangeline was preceded in death by her mother Willie B. Greaves, Father Johnny White, Brother Phillip Greaves, Beloved Uncle Samuel Bazemore, Beloved Aunt Vernice Brown and her Nephew Jamar Ellis, as well as, her Common Law Husband James Bagley and late husband Willie Tommy Taylor.

Evangeline was a loving mother, sister and friend. In an effort to provide for her family, she enrolled in a sheet metal apprenticeship program through (NEW) Non-Traditional Employment for Women to become a skilled "tin knocker", fabricating and installing duct work throughout New York City, including the World Trade Center. She was also employed as one of the first female construction workers in a male-dominated industry. Evangeline loved listening to music, dancing and having good meaningful conversations with the ones she loved. Evangeline always had a heart for those less fortunate than herself. She would give you her last if she had it to give.

The funeral service to honor the life of Evangeline Amicy will be held at Highways to Hedges

Ministries (1002 N Main St. Lenoir, NC 28645) on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 2pm with the Reverend James Wilfong officiating.

A Celebration of Life will follow the funeral service. The Celebration of Life will be held at the

Bernhardt Annex (1840 Morgantown Blvd, Lenoir NC 28645) at 3pm.
