Obituary

Floyd Laney Garnes, age 75, of Lenoir, went home to be with the Lord, his parents, grandparents, and numerous siblings and friends in Heaven.

Mr. Garnes was born on April 7, 1950 at Blackwelder Hospital, in Lenoir, NC, to the late William Thelmer Garnes and wife Dorothy Leola Quinn Garnes. Mr. Garnes was a retired school teacher of 38 years with the Caldwell County School System in Lenoir, NC. He also, was a part time college instructor at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory and Taylorsville, NC for 34+ years in the GED and the Adult High School Programs. Mr. Garnes's motto was "I never dreaded going to my job each day because I love working with teenagers and adults in achieving their educational goals in life." Mr. Garnes was a graduate of Hudson High School, earned an Associate in Arts Degree at Western Piedmont Community College in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Appalachian State University in Language Arts and Social Studies, and a Master of Arts Degree from Appalachian State University in Education. Mr. Garnes was the former co-owner of Rhodhiss Grocery & Sporting Goods, and the co-owner, along with his God-Son, Nathanael L. Oxford, of Little River Nursery & Landscaping in Lenoir.

Among other loves, Mr. Garnes was a member of Clearview Baptist Church for 70+ years, where he served as Music Director for 45+ years, was lead singer of The Clearview Singers and later The Garnes Family Trio. Mr. Garnes served as teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class for 33+ years, the Commander of 12 years for the Clearview Baptist Church AWANA Program, Secretary Treasurer for the Building Committee during the building of the Church's new sanctuary, and served on numerous other church committees. Also, Mr. Garnes was a renown Bible Prophecy Teacher at Clearview Baptist Church and in various people's homes, and the author of many Bible Prophecy Lessons he would type up and distribute to many, many people. He would always say- "Bible Prophecy is my favorite part of the Bible because I can see it being fulfilled right before my eyes".

In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by four brothers-William James Garnes and wife Netta-Belle Haney Garnes, Jospeh Ed Garnes, Harold Junior Garnes and wife Millie Jewel Garnes, Joe Billy Garnes and wife Carolyn Laws Garnes; four sisters-Edith Haas Garnes and husband Marvin Andrew Haas, Faye Haas Garnes and husband Ira Haas, Vera Haas Garnes and husband Franklin Delano Haas, Wanda Walker Garnes, and Ruth May Garnes and husband Harry M. "Don" May. Others include Ronald Walker (Husband of Wanda Thelma Walker), and Eula Dean Garnes (wife of Joseph Ed Garnes).

Sibling survivors include Marie Inman Garnes. Additional survivors include 54 nieces and nephews, 53 great-nieces and nephews, 32 great-great nieces and nephews, and 6 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
