Dr. G. Steward Kirby, age 96, of Hudson passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at his residence. He was born January 3, 1927 in Caldwell County to the late George and Esther Bumgarner Kirby. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Wood Kirby; second wife, Sylvia Pittman Kirby; one brother, Carroll Kirby; one infant sister; and one step-grandson, Andrew Church.

Dr. Kirby was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WW2. He was a faithful member of Hudson United Methodist Church and also attended Center Grove Baptist Church. Dr. Kirby was especially proud of his time spent working in education, among his fondest memories are times of being Principal of Dudley Shoals Elementary School, Principal of Gamewell Elementary School, and an educator at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Eric Kirby of Asheville and Rodney Kirby of Hudson; one daughter, Angela Tuck and husband Bob of Asheville; one step-son, David Pittman; one step-daughter, Gloria Church and husband Jim; two beloved grandchildren, Anna Rogers and husband Jason and Dustin Tuck and wife Lisa; two step-grandchildren, Regina Albaught and husband Jim and Joshua Church and wife Shannon; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Clara, Josey, and Ellie; and six step-great-grandchildren, Luke, Rayna, Myla, Kelsey, Preston, and Jason.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Hudson United Methodist Church with Rev. Holly Cobb McKim officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
