Gay Frances Chester Kirby, age 92, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Hickory Falls surrounded by loved ones on October 9, 2025.

Gay was born on March 7, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late William "Gus" Chester and Bertha Watson Chester.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Kirby; brother, Ken Chester; and sister, Faye Chester.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Richard N. Kirby Jr.; daughter, Patricia Kirby; grandchildren, Spencer L. Kirby (Savanna) and Caitlin M. Kirby (Edward "Eddie" Mendes); great grandchild, Ivey Mendes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gay was very active in her church, Fairview Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir and taught Bible School. She held and assisted with just about every position the church had. Gay always helped anyone in need. She will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Amorem Hospice.
