Gene Carroll Gragg, age 90, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on September 15, 2023 in his home.

Gene was born on December 22, 1932 to the late Windom Gragg and Vinie Coffey Gragg in Avery County, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Gragg; sisters Mildred Ivey, Omie Coffey, Thelma Houston, Ruby Crisp, Carolyn Poteat, and Nelda Mahan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Stella Gragg of the home; sons Brian Gragg (Karen) and Tim Gragg (Jessica); daughter Tammy Gragg (Terry); sisters Ruth Houston and Janice Smith; grandchildren Ian Gragg, Justin Gragg, Monica Gilvin, Summer Gragg, Haley Gragg, and Gaige Gragg; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene worked for Lenoir Mirror for 32 years before becoming a truck driver. He was a hard worker who loved Jesus, his family, and his church. Gene had a bus ministry for 25 years and was the choir director for his church. He was an avid gardener and could be found chopping wood every fall and winter. He will also be remembered for his charming sense of humor.

A funeral service for Gene Carroll Gragg will be held at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel on September 19, 2023 at 2:00PM with Reverend Steve Walsh, Reverend Brian Gragg, and Reverend Horace Minton officiating.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will include Ian Gragg, Justin Gragg, Levi Gragg, Gaige Gragg, Todd Smith, and Terry Gragg.

Honorary pallbearers will include Robert Houston, Jeff Greene, and Dean Greene.
