Obituary

Mrs. Geneva Lou Hartzog Porter, age 65, of Morganton passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at her home.

Geneva loved her church family at Indian Hills Baptist Church where she was a 25 year member.  When she was not serving her church, she enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and watching racing.  Her favorite way to enjoy a race was tailgating at the dirt track – where she never lost a tailgating competition.  Her second favorite way to enjoy a race was to watch Dale Earnhardt lose on a big screen TV.

Geneva was born September 20, 1960 in Caldwell County to George and Daisy Marie Mash Hartzog.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Edsel Porter, a daughter in law, Jennifer Carswell Bolick; five brothers, James David Hartzog, Wade Avery Hartzog, Ray Hartzog, Thomas Jerry Hartzog, and Roger Dale Hartzog.

Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Bolick (wife Andrea) and Ryan James Porter (wife Jackie); a daughter, Jamie Ward (Bolick); two brothers, Wayne "Hotdog" Hartzog and Donald Hartzog; beloved grandson, Jiles Joseph Bolick and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 8 2026 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Greer-McElveen Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory of Lenoir are serving the Porter family.
