George Gary Bentley, 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 25, 2026, just two days after celebrating his birthday. Born on July 23, 1952, Gary lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and service to his community.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lorene Bentley, and his parents, Larkin and Viola Bentley.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his son, Chad Bentley and wife, Elaine; his daughter, Courtney Wilson and husband, Jeff; his brothers, Keith Bentley and wife, Sally, and Jimmy Bentley. Gary was also the proud grandfather of three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

Gary devoted his life to Lenoir Building Supply, the company founded by his father. Beginning his career there in 1970, he faithfully served the business for 56 years, ultimately serving as its President. Alongside his brothers, Keith and Jimmy, Gary dedicated his life to building and growing the family business while providing exceptional service and forming lasting relationships with customers, employees, sales representatives and friends throughout the community. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering work ethic left an enduring legacy that will continue for generations.

More than his professional accomplishments, Gary will be remembered as a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His steady presence, generous heart, and genuine care for others touched countless lives. He led by example, placing his faith in the Lord at the center of his life and demonstrating kindness, humility, and compassion in everything he did.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. A celebration of Gary's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow immediately at Lower Creek Baptist Church.

The service will be officiated by Robert Livingston and Eric Thomas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Bentley, Rex Stokes, Cole Bentley, Ben Dula, Regan Sanders, Charlie Hendrix and Gary Teague. Rome Bentley and Randy Dula will serve as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church (914 Meadowlane Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645) in memory of Gary Bentley.

Though Gary will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he has been welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior. His legacy of faith, love, and unwavering dedication to his family, his business, and his community will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
