George Holbert Maust Jr., age 92, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on January 8th, 2025.

George was born on July 16th, 1932 in High Point, North Carolina to the late George Maust Sr. and Mary Bulla Maust.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Maust of Johnson City, Tennessee.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 39 years, Sandra Gaines Maust of the home; sons, Dirk Maust (Jenn) of Phoeniz, Arizona, Mark Maust of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Jimmy Dwayne Shell (Jessica) of Lyman, South Carolina; daughter, Sandy Zoubeck of Winston Salem, North Carolina; brother, Larry Maust (Lib) of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caroline, Jaz Zoubeck, Laurel Tinsley (Ryne), Madison Shell, and Gable Bishop; as well as one great-grandchild.

George graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree that he worked very hard for. He was a quarterback on the football team, and played his heart out on the field. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force for several years, and he was a proud Korean War Veteran. George attended First United Methodist church, where he was a head usher for many years and served the Lord faithfully. He also loved golf, and scored a hole in one at the age of 88. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, sibling, and grandfather.

A memorial service to honor the life of George Holbert Maust Jr. will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at First Methodist Church in Lenoir at 2PM with Reverend Dr. Dave Melton officiating.

The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service from 1PM until 2PM.
