Obituary

Mrs. Georgie Nell Bowman Lackey, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Monday, August 1, 2023 at Carolina Caring Hospice House, Newton, NC. She was born October 7, 1937 to the late Nye Allen Bowman and Georgia Waddell Bowman. In addition to her parents was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Ward Lackey and sisters Louise Baker, Alma Miller, Linda Brown and Leeola Arney.

Georgie was a member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church since her youth. She retired from Broyhill Occasional #1. Georgie enjoyed going to the car shows in Lenoir with her husband, Johnnie. She loved playing with her grandsons and most recently her little great grandson.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Richard Lackey, and daughter Karen Lackey Clay, who was her care giver for the last three and a half years, her husband Kenny, grandsons Alex Clay and wife Leti and Kelton Clay and wife Emily, great grandson Kelton Luca Clay, two brothers Paul Bowman and Carroll Bowman and wife Arlene.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Rick Safriet of West Lenoir Baptist Church.  Pall bearers will be Alex Clay, Kelton Clay, Rickey Brown, Jim Hinson, Lonnie Dale Lackey, and David Larry Bryant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC  28658, 828-466-0466, www.CarolinaCaring.org. A special thank you goes out to the staff, CNA's, and nurses which gave her exceptional, tender, and loving care while she was at the hospice house and most especially her CAN's Hannah and Tisha and nurse Justine who came out to our home to help care for her. The family thanks you and loves you for all you did for our mother and grandmother.

A special thank you to all our church family and friends that kept our mother and our family in their prayers and thoughts throughout these last three and a half years. They were very much needed and felt.
