Obituary

Gina Cheri Holgerson, age 58 returned to her Heavenly Father Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Gina was born October 27, 1967 in Philadelphia Naval Hospital to Lynne and Dean Van Cleave. The oldest of four, Gina was equal parts maternal and teasing, independent, mischievous, charming and expressive. She loved big. She laughed big. Deeply protective of others, she always took on more people and projects than she could reasonably manage. She didn't like, she LOVED: sewing, scrapbooking, doll-making, jewelry-making, singing, steak, Pampered Chef, Romantasy. She never met a glamorously-dressed Barbie she didn't impulse-purchase, feel guilty about purchasing, fiercely justify, and keep pristine in its original packaging. She never met a story that she didn't embellish, a number to which she didn't add zeros. Never met a treat that tasted as delicious as the one you were eating, or a loved one she didn't wryly threaten to kill. She was a natural conversationalist- good at making you feel understood, at making you feel like you were so funny, even though it was actually her. Gina was a party, an enthusiastic and indefatigable soul.

At twenty-one, she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in New York City: Spanish speaking, where she developed a passion for teaching the gospel and gained an unshakable testimony and love for Jesus Christ. At twenty-four, she married her Sweet Sanders in the LA temple. They were blessed with seven children. Through decades of her declining health, they relied on their shared faith in God. And despite hardships, loss and illness, the close-knit, kind and beautiful family they cultivated is Gina's ultimate legacy.

Gina is survived by her husband- Sanders, their children- Rachel (Spencer), Peter, Sarah (Thomas), Emma (Ben), Mary (Tyler), and Esther (Jacob), grandchildren- Sophia, Liam, Zachary, Adelyn, Malcolm, Christian, Claire, John, Milo, Bianca, and Melody, mother- Lynne, and siblings- Wayne, Diana, and Angie. She is preceded in death by her infant daughter- Ila, her father- Dean, and grandparents- Milo, Margaret, Wayne, Maxine, and Frank.

It is a comfort to know she is at peace in Heavenly Father's hands, Gina had an effervescent presence that will be deeply missed.

Memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Lenoir Building at 1:00 P.M. on April 25, 2026.
