Obituary

Grant McKinley Spicer, 87, of Lenoir, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Caldwell UNC Health Care.

Born on June 28, 1939, in Caldwell County, Grant was the son of the late Paul G. Spicer and Henrietta Suddreth Spicer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Spicer Ford; and his sisters, Pauline Spears and Bessie Ann Miller.

Grant was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. AS an avid outdoorsman, he had a deep appreciation for nature and especially enjoyed deer hunting. After retiring from the North Carolina Department of Correction following 33 years of dedicated service, he spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors, making lasting memories with family, and embracing the simple pleasures of life . His love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident in everything he did, and he treasured every opportunity to be with them.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Karen Dickson and husband, Bill Dickson Jr., and Trena Reid and husband, Ernie; seven grandchildren, Mallory Dickson Keller and husband, Gavin, Mack Dickson and wife, Macy, Cody Huffman, Ciara Huffman, Trenton Ford, Lexton Ford, and Mary Cate Ford; two great-grandchildren, Briggs Keller and Sloan Byrd; and his niece, Tammy Mays and husband, Roy.

In honoring Mr. Spicer's wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of life.
