Hallie Harris Childress, age 97, of Lenoir passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation. She was born February 28, 1926 in Surry County to the late Charles and Molly Durham Harris. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, M.B. Childress; three sons, Roger Dale Childress, Donnie Marshall Childress, and Lonnie Scott Childress; two daughters, Yolanda Gay Childress and Brenda Carolyn Saunders; and two grandchildren, James Bryant Saunders and Gary Dale Phillips.

Mrs. Childress was a Charter Member of Whitnel First Baptist Church and strong in her faith. She played an active role in her church, she worked in the nursery as well as the food pantry, and was a prayer warrior for all. She was a loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Ronnie Childress and wife Patricia of Granite Falls; two daughters, Sandra Childress of Lenoir and Jane Childress Phillips of Granite Falls; eight beloved grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Whitnel First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Stuart White and Rev. Steve Hedgecock. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
