James Fredrick "Fred" Bryson, 86, went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2024. Fred was born in Caldwell County to the late Ruben and Gertrude "Gertie" Bryson. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Gene Bryson, and two sisters, Iris Bryson and Nancy Bryson Suddreth.

Fred is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Paula Angley Bryson; two daughters, Samantha Conley (Todd) and Shannan Oliver (Andy); four grandsons, James, Roby, Andrew, and Cole; one great-grandson, Anthony, and one expected soon. He is also survived by one brother, Jack Bryson (Linda), one sister-in-law, Frances Bryson, one brother-in-law, Max Suddreth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was a Korean War veteran and served in the Army National Guard. He worked as an electrician and enjoyed cooking, raising animals, gardening, spending time with his family and friends, and entertaining them with his quick wit.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. at Indian Hills Baptist Church, 2550 Indian Grave Road, Lenoir, NC 28645. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
