James "David" Hartzog, age 79, of Lenoir, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 10, 2025.

David was born on August 3, 1946 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late George P. Hartzog and Marie Mash Hartzog.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Wade Hartzog, Ray Hartzog, Jerry Hartzog, and R.D Hartzog.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Melinda Canales, Gina Hartzog (Jacob Perez), and Julie Deleon; brothers, Wayne Hartzog and Donald Hartzog; sister, Geneva Bolick; grandchildren, Brandon, Tony, Jorge, Rosanna, Armando, Victoria, Mariana, Erica, Lilliana, JJ, Marcela, Kristina, Daniella, and Karisa; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brooks, Ellie, Mia, Valerie, Julianna, Antonio, Caelee, Greyson, Oaklyn, Emersyn, Adelyn, Isabelle, Lorenzo, Eliza, Adriana, Dayliani, Sophia, Vanessa, Metzly, Juan, Miguel, Jose, Michelle, Pedro, Bryan, Alex, Colton, and Eve.

David loved watching Westerns and discussing history. He also enjoyed racing and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of Grandview Park Church and was devout in his faith, serving his community and church. He served his country honorably, earning a Purple Heart for his service. David served in the United States Army for 2 years, and the United States Navy for 19 years.

A funeral service to honor the life of James David Hartzog will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 2pm at Grand View Park Church with Reverend Raymond Spann officiating.

The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
