Obituary

Jeanne Norment Bush, 99, of Lenoir died peacefully on November 7, 2026. Jeanne was born in Richmond, Virginia to Virginia Hamrick Norment and Richard Edward Norment and moved to Lenoir with her family as an infant.

She attended Lenoir High School and graduated from Mars Hill College. A favorite family anecdote was that her father, dissatisfied with her performance in math, hastily packed her up and enrolled her at Mars Hill to finish high school—while her mother was visiting relatives in Richmond.

Jeanne married R. L. "Rooster" Bush, Jr. in 1948 and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage that produced three children, innumerable golf trips and travel in Europe.

As a young bride, Jeanne joined the Lenoir Service League and for decades participated in the Service Leagues' charitable activities, including Red Cross blood drives, the Thrift Shop and fundraisers. She remained involved as a sustaining member of the League for many years. An avid and skilled bridge player for most of her adult life, she turned to gin rummy and jigsaw puzzles in later years as well as watching football and basketball on television—especially the Panthers and the Tarheels.

She had a lifelong faith in God and was devoted to service in the First United Methodist Church through regular attendance and active membership in Circles and prayer groups.

Surviving family members include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ginny Bush (Warren Schwarzman) of Charleston SC, Barbara Bush (Dick Ferraguto) of Lenoir; Son, R. L. “Randy” Bush IIII of Lenoir; Grandson, Elliott Norment Schwarzman and Granddaughter, Megan Barrett McCabe (Kenny McCabe). She also leaves nieces and nephews, her late nephew's wife and their children.

In addition to her parents, Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, sister Mary Virginia Warren (Ben), brother Richard E. Norment Jr. (Helen) and nephew Richard E. Norment Ill.

Jeanne's family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Annette Suddreth, Janet Ray, Amanda Matheson and Carol Steyn for their love, care and devotion to enriching her life with companionship and laughter during her later years.

In accordance with her wishes, a private family burial service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to UNC Health Caldwell, designated for Hospital Staff and Nurse Services, 321 Mulberry St., Lenoir NC 28645 or to the First United Methodist Church, 309 Church St., Lenoir NC 28645.
