Jerry Dean Whisenant, age 82, of Hudson passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Amorem Hospice. He was born March 12, 1944 in Caldwell County to the late John Edward Smith and Margaret Nell Whisenant. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Claude “Richard” Whisenant; one half-brother, Sonny Smith; and two sisters, Judy Smyre and Margaret “Jane” Edmisten.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Rebecca McCall Whisenant; two sons, Chris Whisenant and Jerry Whisenant, Jr. (Kristen); four daughters, Angela Hayes, Kimberly Woody, Jenell Whisenant, and Shawn Austin (Roger); one brother, Jeffrey Chapman; one half-brother, Mike Smith (Peggy); one sister, Helen Greene; numerous nieces and nephews, seventeen grandchildren, McKenzie Whisenant, Aria Whisenant, Landon Whisenant, Emily Whisenant, Carson Sigmon, Ansley Sigmon, Payton Smith, Carter Whisenant, Kimmy Harbison, Kelly Sanders, William Whisenant, Wesley Edwards, Ryan Edwards, Casey Coffey, Clinton George, Cody McLeod, and Hailey Austin; twelve great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Revonda Richie and Julie Greene.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Yadkin Baptist Church Cemetery with Jeremy McCall and Rev. Jerry Winkler officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chris, Jerry, Wesley, Ryan, Darrell, and Roger.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St. NW Lenoir, NC 28645.
