Joe Mack
Roberts
Jul 28, 1946 — Oct 20, 2025
Lenoir
Joe Mack Roberts, age 79, a lifelong resident of Cajah's Mountain, passed away peacefully at UNC Blue Ridge surrounded by his loving family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Wadene Hartley Roberts, devoted wife and partner of many years; his son Chad Roberts and wife Kathy, his son Marc Roberts, and Thomas
Hollingsworth; and one grandson, Cameron Chad Roberts and wife Rachael, all of which brought him great pride and joy.
Joe is also survived by his sisters Sue Roberts Cobb of Lenoir, Mitzi Whittington of High Point, and Gail Jones of Hudson, along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished his wisdom, humor, and warmth. He was preceded in death by his father Robert "Bob" Leslie Roberts, his mother Genevieve Smith Roberts, and brothers Bobby Roberts and John Campbell Roberts.
Joe's life was defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering love for family and community. As the founder of Cajah's Mountain QuickLube, Joe took great pride in his work, treating all who came to visit like family and adding his personal touch of care and generosity to everything he did. His career as a General Contractor and mentor to countless others helped shape local businesses and inspired many to pursue their own dreams.
Those who knew Joe will remember him as an amazing friend who brought joy and laughter, and poured his wisdom and teachings onto many. He was the patriarch of his family — dependable, generous, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His home was the heart of many joyful Christmas gatherings, and his beautiful holiday light displays became a beloved tradition in the Cajah's Mountain community, shining as brightly as the spirit of the man who created them.
In his final moments, surrounded by the people he loved most, Joe expressed peace and faith — saying he was going "to a house not built with hands." His family takes comfort in knowing he is now home.
