Mr. Joel "Joe" Ray Ayers, age 73, of Lenoir passed away April 2, 2026 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare.

Born November 4, 1952 in Caldwell County, Joe was a son of the late John Anglus and Marjorie Barlow Ayers.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Duane Ayers; and sister, Susan Teague.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Steele Ayers; a son, Brian Ayers (wife Jennifer); a grandson, Cody Ayers; two sisters in law, Jean Ayers and Pat Keene; a brother in law, Kenny Steele (wife Debbie); nieces, Shannon Ayers (husband David), Tonya Severt (husband Jason), Amanda Copeland (husband Matt), Jill Stevens (husband Verne) and Lisa Summerow; nephews, Billy Steele (wife Amanda), Chris Steele (wife Angela); great nephew, David Smith; a great niece, Angel Steele; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.

At Joe's request, there will be no services held.
