Obituary

John Emerson Burch, aged 78, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at Catawba Memorial in Hickory, North Carolina surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 8,1947, in York, South Carolina, John lived a life characterized by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

During his early years, he embarked on a distinguished career in the furniture industry, contributing his skills and expertise for an impressive forty years. His work ethic and integrity were a great representation of his personal and professional life. His later years were spent working at Gracefield Meadows Farm, where he nurtured a deep appreciation for nature and the animals he cared for (feeding them peanut butter crackers). He really enjoyed his time bossing Gary, Susan and the boys around to make sure they were doing things the way he wanted.

In pursuit of personal growth and education, John graduated from CCC&TI with his GED, (after leaving school early to help take care of his family) demonstrating his belief in the importance of lifelong learning. Beyond his professional endeavors, he cherished spending time outdoors and relished the moments shared with his loved ones, embodying a spirit of warmth and generosity that resonated with all who knew him. He enjoyed multiple types of racing as well as spending time with his church family.

He is preceded by his wife Judy, of over 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his two sons, Donald and wife Renee, Robert and wife Crystal; his granddaughters, Madison and fiancé Gabe, Caroline and husband Barry; his grandson, Alex and wife Abby, and great grandson Anderson; and his sisters, Sheila and husband Gary, Donna and partner Donald, Nancy and husband Alan, and Kathy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private gathering for close family and friends will be held to honor his life.

John leaves behind a profound legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and an enduring love for the outdoors that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
