Joseph Gray McCloy Ill, age 90, of Granite Falls, North Carolina, was born on September 11, 1933 to Joseph Gray II and Myra McCloy. Joe, as friends called him, passed away at home on June 15, 2024.

Joseph was long time husband to Margaret (Lou) McCloy, who preceded him in death in 2015. The devoted couple was married for 54 years and during that time they raised three wonderful children together.

Joe is survived by 3 children, their spouses, 4 grandchildren, and brother Steven. His children include Michael (Rebekah) McCloy of Lenoir, Leslie (Michael) Pike of Broomfield Colorado, and Patrick (Angela) McCloy with whom he resided in Granite Falls. His grandchildren include Caroline Houk, Devin Pike, and Declan and Keaton McCloy.

Joe was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Hickory, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school. He also loved to recount of the times he traveled to Bolivia and Kenya for mission trips to spread the gospel.

Joe was the proprietor of FibreSales of Hickory, along with only brother, Steven McCloy of Highpoint. Later, Joe became the Director of Christian Ministries with the Salvation Army of Hickory, where he selflessly served others in need.

Before all this, Joe honorably served in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, demonstrating his dedication to his country.

Joe, Dad, Granddad will be remembered for his kindness, strong will, and unwavering love for his family.
