Joyce "Susie" Carpenter, age 94, of Lenoir went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, December 4, 2025. She was born November 21, 1931, to the late Gladys Setzer. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Haskell "Hack" Carpenter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Marc Carpenter (Bennie) of Hudson, Sharon Green of Lenoir, and Teresa Urquhart (David) of Fort Mill, SC; her grandchildren Jennifer Trivette of Hudson, Jessica Lyons (Shawn) of Brookline, MA, Berkeley Green (Savannah) of Hickory, Monty Green (Callie) of Lincolnton, Madeline Gmerek (Steven) of Piedmont, SC, Chloe Green of Arlington, VA, Hailey Springstroh (Adam) of Canton, GA, Madisen and Sam Urquhart of Atlanta, GA; her great-grandchildren: Addie Trivette, Thomas, James, and William Lyons, Gatlin, Gunner, Emery, and Avery Green, Annaston and Aubrey Millis, James and Van Springstroh.

Susie was a bookkeeper for Bernhardt-Seagle Hardware Store for 35 years and administrative assistant for Broyhill Furniture Lenoir Chair, Plant 6, for 15 years. She was an active member of Mt. Olivet UMC for 60+ years and most recently at Harper's Chapel UMC. She held several positions in the church including teacher, secretary, and treasurer and served on many committees. She was the "coffee lady" at the Olivet Community Food Pantry for several years until her health prevented it. All of those who knew Susie said she was one of the sweetest ladies they had ever met.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Grace Heights Health and Rehabilitation and at UNC Health Blue Ridge who cared for Joyce over the last few years.

The family will hold a receiving of friends and family on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Jerry Rogers and will commence at 2:00 PM in the chapel, immediately followed by burial at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Urquhart, Sam Urquhart, Berkeley Green, Monty Green, Shane Lambert, and Keaton Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain View Food Pantry (c/o Judy Outzs, 3001 Shallow Creek Rd, Lenoir, NC 28645) and Amorem Hospice, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
