Kenneth William Workman, 72, of Lenoir, NC, formerly of Sylacauga, Alabama, passed away peacefully at UNC Blue Ridge in Morganton, NC on Friday, March 8, 2024 after an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Penny Marie Workman, who died a few months after birth; his sister-in-law, Tammy Workman (Fred); his sister, Vickie Mae Pruden, in 2006; his son, Kenny Workman, in 2011; his brother, David Workman, in 2017; his father, Julius Workman; his mother, Elizabeth Brown Workman, in 2021; and his wife of 35 years, Mary, on January 31, 2024.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lisa Baker (Norman) of Madison, Indiana; son, Bobby Workman (Debra) of Wayne, West Virginia; brother, Fred Workman of Genoa, WV; brother, Gordon Workman (Catherine) of Genoa, WV; sister-in-law, Louise McGrady Frey (Terry) of Alpine, AL; stepson, Rick Wesson (Reba) of Weogufka, AL; stepson, Jerry Ward (Julie) of Dallas, GA; stepson, Roger Ditto (Renee) of Guntersville, AL, stepdaughter, Julie Overby (Johnny) of Lenoir, NC; beloved nephew, David "Little Davey" Workman (Jennifer), countless grandchildren and great grandchildren, some pretty incredible former neighbors, Paula, Chris, and Laura Pelfrey of Sylacauga, AL, who treated Ken like he was family because to them, he was.

Ken retired as a construction superintendent.  He could build just about anything and he spent a significant amount of time building and overseeing the construction of barracks and other facilities aboard various military installations in the eastern part of North Carolina and other states, as well.  He was often described as "a good, good guy."

Ken was a devoted husband and he loved his family.  In 2012, he and Mary left North Carolina and moved back to Alabama where his wife Mary had spent her formative years.  He loved to fish, loved to watch the SEC, specifically Alabama, was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, enjoyed watching wrestling and science-fiction movies, and he made the absolute best cabbage rolls.  He had an infectious laugh, a huge smile, and an even bigger heart.  He was fiercely devoted to his wife, Mary.

Ken had expressed his desire to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in West Virginia at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to your charity of choice.  Or take some fresh-cut flowers to your local nursing home and spend time with a resident who doesn't get visitors.  Or fire up the grill and invite your incredible neighbors, family, or friends over to break bread. He would also encourage you to make peace with your past and spend a significant amount of time having quiet conversations with Jesus.
