Obituary

Lynn Delphine Corpening Powell, 65, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. She was born on December 4, 1960, in Caldwell County to the late Thelma and John Corpening.

Lynn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Powell; her parents, Thelma and John Corpening; her sister, Jeannie Burgess; and her brothers, John Corpening Jr. and Aaron Corpening.

Mrs. Powell was a dedicated Walmart associate for 24 years before retiring. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who cherished the time she spent with her family. Lynn enjoyed watching old-time westerns, eating good food, and shopping. Above all, she treasured her family and the memories they made together. Her love, strength, and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Lynn’s memory and carry on her legacy include her daughter, Tara Perkins of Lenoir, and Anthony Perkins of Lenoir; her five grandchildren, Kala (Montavious) Perkins of Statesville, NC; Vada (Destanee) Perkins of Raleigh, NC; Nicholas (Makayla) Perkins of Hudson, NC; Taiwan (Layla) Perkins of Hickory, NC; and Jaya Perkins of Lenoir, NC; and her four great-grandchildren, Eli Horton of Lenoir, NC; Karisma Perkins of Hudson, NC; Kendall Perkins of Hudson, NC; and Kalaya Lynn Perkins of Hickory, NC. Her 2 sisters Irma Patterson of Lenoir, NC and Dorthea Honer of Lenoir, NC and a Bother Calvin Corpening of Lenoir, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Lynn’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she is deeply missed, her love and legacy will continue through the generations she leaves behind.

Funeral service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at First Church of God in Lenoir at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Mary Patterson officiating.

The family will have visitation one hour prior from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
