Our Grandmother's Story

Our grandma was the perfect mixture of laughter, unrelenting curiosity, and knowledge. No one laughed or had a way with words quite like her. The love she had for her parents and siblings was easily heard in each story she told. She was proud of her three sons and all their accomplishments. Along came seven grandchildren and she became quite the story teller. You could always count on grandma for something special: a sweet treat from the deep freezer, a fun game of bingo (she had the best prizes), or a family dinner (large enough to feed an army), but the most memorable of all were her stories. She would tell the best stories, captivating us for hours. We think the most exciting of all was her siblings and her hearing the sounds of what they thought was a hollering woman out in the woods. Soon, they found out it was a crying panther that ended up chasing them across the creek back to their home. She said she ran so fast that her feet didn't even get wet crossing the creek. We were all amazed by her. She had a passion for knowledge; always researching and learning something new. Passing on her knowledge to others was something she loved as well. She always encouraged us to further our education and careers. Her biggest passion outside of her family was her garden. If you visited in the summertime, you were sure to find her knelt down behind a tomato plant. Canning, preserving, and sharing food with her friends and family was such a peaceful past time for her. She also thoroughly enjoyed walking around the Lenoir Mall with some of her closet friends. She was loved deeply, and the vivid memories of her will be cherished by many.
