Margaret Elizabeth Clarke Hartley, age 95, of Lenoir passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson. She was born June 5, 1927 in Avery County to the late Charles and Birdie Wilson Clarke.

Margaret was an active member of Confidence Advent Christian Church.  She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Missionary Society.  She was a seamstress by trade working at Blue Bell and Broyhill Plant #3.  She also enjoyed quilting and making baskets.  Margaret enjoyed traveling.  Some of the places she enjoyed most were the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Niagara Falls.  She was a Mom to many and will be remembered for her quick wit and cooking, especially her yeast rolls.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William Clell Hartley; her siblings, Earl Clarke, Mildred Pritchard, Ruth Rader, Roy Clarke, Ruby Pritchard, Frances Mikeal, Fushia Gragg and Inez Beane.

Those left surviving include two daughters, Sarah McGalliard (husband Joseph) and Emily Hartley; a son, Brent Hartley (wife Ginny); two special sons, Len Beane and Rusty Greene; her grandchildren, Elizabeth "Beth" Hartley and Madeline Medlock; a great grandson, Landon Hartley-Hargis; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating Margaret's life will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Confidence Advent Christian Church with Pastor Norm Sherwood officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
