Mark Robin Starin, age 78, of Lenoir, NC, passed peacefully at the Durham, NC Veterans Medical Center- Hospice after a  diagnosis of esophageal cancer. Born on July 21, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas, Mark then lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, and California. He graduated from AC Flora as first chair in trumpet and as an active member of the drama club. Mark attended the University of South Carolina before serving honorably in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Sagacity, a mine sweeper, during Vietnam. Professionally, Mark managed a variety of restaurant businesses before retiring to a quiet life in Lenoir, NC.

He is survived by his three sons, Scott, Jason and Josh, their spouses and four grandchildren, Connor, Alice, Anna, and Norah; his brother, Christopher and wife Sherri; his sister-in-law, Linda; three nieces, Dawn, Amy, and Molly; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, Skyler, Bailey, Wade, Logan and Kierra. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice Atchley Starin and Connor Starin of Lenoir; and his brother, Jon Starin of Pickens, SC.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Herb Stevens officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St NW, Lenoir, NC 28645; or the VA Hospice of Durham, 508 Fulton St, Durham, NC 27705.
