Obituary

A loving wife, mother, mother-in law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mary Rainey Coffey succumbed to injuries on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 and was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior.   Mary was married to her late husband, Chief Bobby H. Coffey, for 65 years.

Mary was born March 8, 1940 in Caldwell County to the late John Cone Rainey and Vada Dingler Rainey.

For many years Mary ran a family jewelry store, Rainey's Jewelers, and enjoyed serving and fellowshipping with so many of the community.  Being raised in this business, she continued providing the services of offering not only jewelry, but also china, stemware, silverware and glassware to new brides as well as others.

Mary and her late husband, Chief Bobby H. Coffey, worked with youth at Mountain Grove Baptist Church as well as Central Baptist Church, and was such a positive influence on many young people which they loved so greatly.  She loved working with many wonderful ladies at the Lenoir Woman's Club for several years and held all of the community close to her heart.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Ronnie G. Coffey (Jannah) of Hudson; one daughter, Beverly Bigelow (David) of Hudson; three beloved grandchildren, William G. Coffey (Tiffany), Jacob C. Bigelow (Jessie), and Mary B. Knight (Justin); four great-grandchildren, Colton Coffey, Jovie Knight, Mack Knight, and Eden Bigelow; one sister, Grace Hendrix; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Hoss Moore officiating. The graveside service will be open to anyone that would like to join the family in celebrating the life of this incredibly loved lady.
