Mary Eloise Sherrill Setzer, age 97, of Hudson, NC passed away of natural causes on September Il 2025. Eloise was born February 18th, 1928 in Lenoir, NC. to George William (Bill) Sherrill and Theresa Lee Throneburg Sherrill.

Eloise is survived by her four children Joseph (Joe) Clinton Setzer Jr., William (Bill) Kohn Setzer, Susan Setzer Hassman, Eric Sherrill Setzer and her siblings, Kohn Sherrill, Myra Sherrill Hudson, Martha Sherrill Price, Dennis Sherrill and Hope Sherrill Kizer. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graduating from Belmont High School, Belmont NC. She then attended  Lenoir Rhyne College Hickory NC and received a BS in teaching. Eloise  taught in various schools in Caldwell County. While teaching and with 4 small children, she attained her Master's Degree in counseling at Appalachian State University.

Eloise put her faith and love of God in all she endeavored. Her love of church, family and community was abundant in her life. Her activities at St. John's Lutheran Church were many. She was president of the Women's Lutheran  Auxiliary, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, Catechism classes, the Youth Luther League and so much more.

Community activities included being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hudson Garden Club, 4-H club, and helping to start the first Girl Scouts organization of Hudson, NC in the late 1940's. She also worked on the 100th addition of the Hudson High School year book, and was named  Woman of the Year for the town of Hudson.

Eloise touched the lives of family and friends in so many ways. Anyone who knew her will say what a kind, generous and loving person she was. Our  family and friends were blessed to have her for so many years. She will be  sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hudson NC.

Receiving will be held before the service in the church basement from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

A private burial service will be held after the service.
