Michael Cleve McGarvey, age 70, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 at UNC Hospital Chapel Hill. He was born December 4, 1955 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Cleve Amos McGarvey and Ruth May Tipton McGarvey. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Joannie Drayer.

Michael was a lifelong fisherman including annual trips to Deer Horn Lodge in Canada for forty years and various other locations. He enjoyed raising farm animals throughout the years and spending time with his children and grandchildren especially the yearly large family vacations. He enjoyed sports cars especially MGs; playing, coaching, and watching sports; playing Warhammer and flying remote controlled airplanes; RV'ing with family after retirement; and attending NC State football games with friends and family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Virginia Osbahr McGarvey; one son, Sean McGarvey and wife Karlee; one daughter, Rachel McGarvey and husband Gary K'Hill Lesemann; one brother, Timothy K. McGarvey and wife Janet; four sisters, Iva Jean Conley, Donna Mae Snyder and husband James, Patricia Lee Brown, and Linda L. Kostelec; four grandchildren, Kinslee, Emmie, Raylynn, and Olivia; numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family, Tina Dunn.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at 1841 Cafe of Lenoir, all are welcome to attend to celebrate the life of Mr. McGarvey.
