Mrs. Mildred Craig Underdown, age 96, of Lenoir passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Shaire Center in Lenoir.

Born June 23, 1927 in Caldwell County, Mildred was the daughter of the late George and Pearle Prestwood Craig.  Mildred was the oldest living member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church.  Through the years, she held many offices in the church.  She retired from Broyhill Furniture after forty plus years of service.  Mildred also enjoyed working in her flower garden and cooking for others.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Parks Underdown; two brothers, Earl "Bobby" Craig and James Harold Craig.

Survivors include her daughter, Patsy Kirby (husband Bill); a grandson, Brian Kirby (wife Ashley); her great grandchildren, Caleb Kirby, Aiden Kirby and Paisley Kirby; special nieces, Jan Wilcox, Lori Jenkins and Kristen Jenkins; she is also survived by numerous other relatives.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mildred's many caregivers, the staff of the Shaire Center and Amorem Hospice.

A celebration of Mildred's life will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Clarks Chapel Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dale Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
