Nancy "Kay" Geouge passed away on June 20, 2023 at the age of 71 surrounded by loved ones in her home.

She was born on May 9, 1952 in Burke County. She grew up in Hudson, N.C., where she attended Hudson High School and later attended junior college to become certified as a cosmetologist, and later as a birth to kindergarten teacher.

After completing her education, she began her career as a cosmetologist at the JCPenny Salon where she worked for 10 years. She then worked as a Fashion Bug regional manager for a number of years before pursuing her true passion of working with children.  She was known as Ms. Kay to so many children she lovingly taught in her preschool classroom at Lenoir Christian Academy. Hard work, dedication and willingness to go above and beyond her call of duty were hallmarks of her character.

In 1974, Kay met her sweetheart, Dennis. They were married on December 21 of the same year and together they welcomed their only child, a precious daughter, April. Kay was overjoyed and thankful to God for her long awaited daughter. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. Her love for Jesus was woven into every aspect of her life whether it was guiding her loved ones and friends to the Lord, her support as a minister's wife or her daily walk with Christ.  As part of her love for Christ, she was a constant helpmeet to her minister husband and a mother figure to many of her church family. She graciously served in her church, whether it be by teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, organizing charities, cleaning, cooking or simply supporting God's people.

Kay relished the company of family and friends.  She gave so much love to so many.  A testament of the lives she touched was seen in the care, love and support she was shown in her final days before she joined her Heavenly Father.  Even in her greatest battle, she still thought of others often asking how they were doing and expressing her prayers for them. No matter the circumstance, she praised her Lord and Savior.  She frequently helped those in need whether it be her family, friends, strangers or her brothers and sisters in Christ.  She treated them all like family and called them just that.

Kay was part of so many lives and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rick Franklin.  She is survived by her husband Dennis, daughter April, son-in-law Derek, granddaughter Novalee, brothers: George "Bud" Franklin, Audie Franklin, Fabian Franklin and sisters: Diane Carswell, Doris Sigmon, Gale Franklin and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023  at Community Chapel at 11am. At Kay's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her cherished granddaughter, Novalee Haney's college fund.
