Norma Crowe Shoemake, age 98, of Lenoir went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the night of Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was born November 12, 1925 in Avery County to the late Dallas Crowe and Jeanette Clark Crowe. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Fred W. Shoemake; brothers, Wonzal Crowe, and Infant Dallas Crowe; sister, Vivian Crowe Gubasta; half-brothers, Aldred Clark and Jimmy Clark; and half-sisters, Katie Bradshaw and Janet Sweet.

One of Norma's fondest memories was her mother taking her and her siblings to church at a young age. She would continue to stay strong in her faith throughout life and was a devoted member of North Lenoir Church of God where she loved her church family and the Lord with all of her heart. Norma was an artist and painted many beautiful paintings she also enjoyed helping others with their art. She was a talented singer, piano player, and drummer. She enjoyed cooking and made many delicious things and will be remembered for her fried apple pies. Norma loved gardening especially herbs, she was very knowledgeable and could answer many questions concerning them. At one time she owned an herbal shop at her home called Herbs and Herbal Things. She would sell intricate woven herbal baskets, potpourri, and many other items. Among all things Norma had a huge heart and loved people and animals- if you looked sad or alone you would receive a smile, a compliment, a hug, and sometimes even all three. If you were not well, you may not have seen or heard from Norma but know that prayers were going up for you.

Those left to cherish her memory include her only daughter, Sandra Brooks and two furry little ones; one half-brother, Creed Clark; two half-sisters, Wanda Smith (Howard), and Yvonne Effler; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews that were very special to her.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a local animal rescue of your choosing.
