Our dear mother, Opal Davis Woods, passed away on December 25, 2023 at the age of 96. She was a wonderful mother, who was always there when we needed her.

Opal was born on June 8, 1927 in Watauga County to the late Walter and Mary Ward Davis. She was a member of First Christian Church of Mountain City, Tennessee. She retired from Fairfield Chair.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Archie Woods; three son-in-law's, Tony Parlier, Paul Lawson, Sr., and Thomas R. Pipes; one grandson; brothers, Eli, J.D., Roy, and Howard Davis; and sisters, Louise Watson and Anna Belle Watson.

She is survived by her children, Hilda Pipes Lawson, Lisa Parlier, and Tommy Woods (Wanda Wilson Woods); grandchildren, Heather Ward (Rick), Hope Pipes, Lora Parlier (Shaq), Nathan Woods (Amy), and Michael Woods (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Jordan Dula, Brittney Dula, Devontae Pipes, Katelyn Pipes-Walton, Keira Murray, Kyrie Byrd and Wendy Woods; great-great grandchildren, Trey, Kylie, Tyler, Adonis, Lainey and Noah Dula, Carson, Carter, Hunter, Walker and Kynleigh Pipes; sisters, Pauline Brown and Ala Sue Dyer; her furbabies, Paris, Benji and Freddy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mama you are gone but thank you for all these soft, sweet things you left behind, in our home, in our heads, and in our hearts.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM in The Chapel of Greer-McElveen Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Widener officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Monday, January 1, 2024 at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any no kill animal shelters.
