Obituary

Robert Mickeal Hendrix, age 86, of Hudson passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at UNC Blue Ridge. He was born November 15, 1937 in Caldwell County to the late Albert Brantley Hendrix and Lottie Lester Smith Hendrix. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Hendrix and Howard Hendrix; and five sisters, Mary Lee Elliott, Dot Hendrix, Jewel Hendrix, Alberta Shatley, and Claudia Hendrix.

Mr. Hendrix worked as an educator at Valmead Elementary School for 18 years, Hudson Middle School for 14 years, and Dudley Shoals Elementary School. His focus in teaching was remedial math which he taught for a total of 24 years. He was awarded Teacher of the Year for 2 years at Valmead Elementary School, Teacher of the Year for 2 years at Hudson Middle School, as well as being featured in Who's Who in American Education in 1992. He was a member of the Hudson Optimist where he coached baseball and football, as well as coaching for Hudson Middle School girls' softball and basketball, and all sports at Valmead Elementary School.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Myra Jean Branch Hendrix, of the home; one son, Derek Hendrix of Granite Falls; one daughter, Robinn Cook (Randy) of Nebo; one sister, Patricia Woodie (Jerry) of Hudson; three grandchildren, Charity Bergstrom (Chris), Jennifer Powell (Brian), and Ashley Anderson (Ryan); five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Confidence Advent Christian Church with Rev. Norm Sherwood officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be David McGee, Mike Burns, Rick Curtis, George Curtis, Chris King, Chad Triplett, and Robert Gilbert.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Colony of Mercy, 1675 Bethel Colony Rd, Lenoir, NC 28645.
