Robert "Wayne" Phillips, Sr., age 77, of Lenoir went to meet his Heavenly Father, where he will be reunited with his loving wife, Velma Parson Phillips, on Monday, June 30, 2025; at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation after a period of declining heath. Wayne was born on September 23, 1947 in Caldwell County to the late Thomas William Phillips and Leona Philyaw Phillips. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by one sister, Reba Inez Penley.

Wayne was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Hudson, NC. He dearly loved his friends, he especially loved his little black feline companion of 18 years, Kit Kat.

Wayne drove a dump truck for many years hauling dirt and gravel to folks all over the county. He made a lot of good friends in doing so and enjoyed every minute of it. Wayne also enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling.

Those left to cherish his memory include his step-son, Jimmy Allen Parson (Vicki) of Lenoir, sons, Robert Phillips, Jr. (Jan) of Hudson and Jonathan Phillips of Hudson; step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Parson of Lenoir; grandchildren, Joshua Phillips, Ashley Phillips, and Tiffany Strickland, all of Smithfield, NC; great-granddaughter, Caroline Strickland of Smithfield, NC; nephew, Mike Phillips (Alice) of Lenoir; and many beloved cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Allen Norrod officiating.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation that had a part in his care as well as all the staff of Amorem Hospice.
