Rudell June Corpening, age 88, of Lenoir passed away Monday, December 30, 2024 at his residence. He was born November 5, 1936 in Burke County to the late Walter McDonald Corpening and Margaret Rebecca Coffey Corpening. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three siblings, Margaret Faye Corpening, William Justice Corpening, and Paul Allen Corpening.

Mr. Corpening was a 1959 graduate of Freedman High School. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Mars Hill A.M.E where he taught Sunday School, and was on the Steward and Trustee Board. Mr. Corpening was a pulp wood logger and truck driver for many years. He was a former employee of Drexel Furniture and Lenoir Chair. He was also over maintenance at Morganton Housing Authority for several years. Mr. Corpening was a farmer and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and working on cars. He was literally a man of many gifts and talents.

Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Walter Alexander Corpening of Morganton and Gerald Vance Corpening of Lenoir; three sisters, Jessie Mae Corpening Parker of Durham, Shirley Ann Corpening Kincaid of Lenoir, and Catherine Corpening Rankin of Morganton; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Corpening will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Mars Hill AME Methodist Church with Rev. Samuel Verdell Patterson, Rev. Audrey Gwynn, Rev. Mike Mathes, and Rev. Frances Tate officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
